About the Photographer

Wara Vargas grew up accompanied by photography thanks to her parents, both visual artists. Telling stories is what always motivates her, and thanks to the people who let her tell their story, her work has been recognised nationally and internationally, and been exhibited in various countries including Germany, the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, Italy and Spain. She is currently documenting the work of traditional midwives in Bolivia thanks a National Geographic grant.

QUARANTINE IN THE DARK: A blind woman is pushed by the police during a protest. The blind population of the city of La Paz in Bolivia are marching for support to overcome the economic crisis due to the COVID-19 quarantine. Before the pandemic, their life was spent in the different streets of La Paz offering songs or sweets on corners to support their families. But the rigid quarantine changed this to home confinement, measuring 4 by 4 meters.
